The Who-What-Why-Where-When and How…
Being able to read is more than a life necessity, it has the power to transport us into the wonderful world of imagination, it teaches us, it helps us grow.
To some, reading can sometimes be viewed as a chore, but it mostly is an immense pleasure all of us should be able to experience. Alas, life’s realities beg differently as so many are either challenged with reading skills, or challenged with access to books. Either way, those in that predicament miss on so much!
The Authors Show’s “Give A Book, Get A Smile” campaign aims to bring changes to these literacy challenges, with the help of authors, readers, and the business community.
At this time, we are calling specifically on donation of children books ages 4 to 12. We accept picture and chapter books written in English as well as books written in French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and bilingual books English plus one of the previously mentioned languages.
All donated English books will be distributed to local organizations and/or schools catering to disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada, within the communities where the books were donated. Eighty percent of all bilingual books will also stay inside the communities where they were donated. The remaining twenty percent of bilingual books and all the books in a foreign language will be earmarked for a foreign country with strong children literacy deficiencies, speaking that language (i.e French books could go to the province of Quebec in Canada, Chinese books could go to China).
Step 1: A podcast pioneer in the publishing industry with a history of 12+ years of professional author interview production, The Authors Show is leveraging its pool of thousands of authors and calling on them to commit to giving to the “Give a Book, Get A Smile” campaign a minimum of five book copies per year, and to let their immediate circle of influence know about the project, so that they too may have the opportunity to participate.
Step 2: The Authors Show is also reaching out to the retail business community catering to children goods/services (toys, clothing, kid’s attractions, etc…) to volunteer to be drop off locations for book donors within their own community.
Step 3: Within each local community volunteers will pick up donated books to bring them to predetermined recipients. For foreign countries, The Authors Show is reaching out to the shipping industry to volunteer logistical assistance to get the books to their intended foreign destinations.
More details coming soon.
This is an ongoing project to start small but aiming big, and it starts NOW! But we cannot do it alone and we need help to make all this happen and work it smoothly and efficiently.
