The Cold War pitted the superpowers, Russia against the United States, in a nuclear arms race
lowly pawns are expendable, are the first to fall, and they do not topple a King and do not win the
game. This is the story of one of those Cold War “pawns,” Stanislaus Sedecki—a spy. He is
caught and convicted of espionage by Russia’s KGB. He suffers amnesia from the blow of a rifle
butt to his head and is tossed into the atrociously cruel Gulags of Siberia’s frozen north.

Years later, through a twist of fate, Sedecki survives the unbelievable cruelty, regains his senses
and escapes from the Gulags.  Sedecki, the “foreign pawn,”  then explodes upon the world’s
chessboard, threatening to accomplish the supposedly impossible: bring down a superpower—
and topple a sitting president.
